Here's what I am doing in my gardens this January: Nothing.

But I am looking and listening to see who comes to visit to eat seeds, watching for little tracks, finding evidence of visitors who depend on bits of seed and foliage for their winter survival. Woodpeckers, jays, house finches, and cardinals have all been spotted rummaging around the beds. I want to take inventory of what is helping and supporting other habitats, such as my Echnicia, my Baptisia and mounded leftover leaf litter from the fall.

Of course, I’m watching the crows

I'm (somewhat obsessively) looking at seed and bulb catalogs (both old and new), looking for some new plant or plant grouping to add to a new design or sneak into an existing client's garden.

I'm also mulling over my growing stone collection (yes, I have a stone collection) and what I will (hopefully) be doing with it this summer. Stay tuned for updates on my own personal project!
